A0002 - 'Publishing custom Chaperon block pages'

Note: These instructions describe how to publish the locally installed "Blocked Site" pages on the ISA Server itself. It also assumes that you do not have another web site published on the ISA.

Requirements: For these instructions, Internet Information Services must be installed on local ISA. However, you could just as easily publish the pages to another server on your network (or the Internet) either by publishing them to the server with a program such as FrontPage or moving them there manually.

Other Modifications not Covered Here: Using FrontPage or some other program to alter the locally published "Denied Site" pages to reflect the look and feel of your organization's website is a great idea. It is especially useful to use the pages to publish your Internet Use Policy. You can easily modify all the Chaperon Block pages at once by modifying the header.asp and footer.asp pages under the "_private" folder in the DENIEDWEB directory.

Instructions

Step 1: Publish the Pages

  1. Open the Chaperon 2000 directory in Windows Explorer
  2. Right-click the DeniedWeb folder, and select "Sharing."
  3. Select the "Web Sharing" tab.
  4. Click "Share this Folder" and click "OK."

Step 2: Setting Up Internet Information Services

  1. Open Internet information Services
  2. Right-click Default Web Site and select "Properties."
  3. It is recommend changing the port to something that will not interfere with ISA's normal operations such as 8282 - click "OK."
  4. Stop the Default Web Site and start it back.

Step 3: Finishing Up

  1. From a client machine, type in http://SERVERNAME:8282/DENIEDWEB/C7.ASP where "SERVERNAME" is the name of your ISA Server and 8282 is the port you set your Default Web Site to listen on. If the "Denied Site" page comes up, then you are ready to set Chaperon to redirect to your pages.
  2. Open Chaperon 2000 and select "Filter Manager."
  3. For "Blocked Site Page," click on "custom" and enter http://SERVERNAME:8282/DENIEDWEB/
  4. Save your changes
  5. Initiate a FILTER RELOAD
  6. Finally, test your newly published page by attempting to access a blocked page from a client machine. It should redirect to the appropriate site on your server.

This evaluation is a fully working version of Chaperon 2000 that will operate for 30 days. The installation is incredibly smooth, and just in case you want to try something else before you buy, the uninstall is squeaky clean.
