SYMPTOMS:
After installing an NT Service Pack or possibly some 3rd party software, the Surrogate Socket Active-X component becomes unregistered. This causes the Surrogate Socket service to fail to start on a subsequent reboot. Surrogate Socket will log "Error instancing Socket Server. Error(-2147023179) Automation error" in the Surrogate Socket log and no connections will be allowed through Surrogate Socket.
This problem may also occur if your NT Server is low on registry quota.
MORE INFORMATION:
We have not identified any specific 3rd party software which causes this problem, but it has been observed following installation of NT Service Pack 5 on some NT systems.
RESOLUTION:
The problem is corrected in the latest release of Surrogate Socket. For information on upgrading your Surrogate Socket installation see advisory T0002.
