SYMPTOMS:

The Surrogate Socket service hangs on a regular basis.  Though it stops accepting new connections, the service status continues to indicate that it is still running.

PROBLEM:

Windows is taking away Surrogate Socket's listening port which effectively blocks it from receiving new connections and causes Surrogate Socket to hang.

WORKAROUND:

Create a batch file to cycle Surrogate Socket and schedule it to run on a daily basis. 

1. Save cycless.txt to the WINNT directory of your server.
2. Rename cycless.txt to cycless.bat.
3. Open an MS-DOS prompt.
4. Type the following:  at 2:00 /every:m,t,w,th,f,s,su c:\winnt\cycless.bat <hit enter>

STATUS

CornerPost has confirmed this to be an issue on some Windows 2000 installations, and is looking into the cause.  Until a more permanent solution is found, please use the workaround described above.  If this workaround does not work for you, please let us know by emailing techsupport@cornerpostsw.com.
